An Atheist Became Christian After Seeing This—So I Painted It
The Face of Jesus?
Hey,
I’ve been deep in research for this latest painting, and I wanted to share something with you.
I just finished another major part of the piece, and here’s the second teaser.
The Historical Artifact Behind This Piece
For this painting, I wanted to create the most authentic and historically grounded image of Jesus I’ve ever done.
So, I turned to one of the most mysterious and studied religious artifacts in history—the Shroud of Turin.
David Rolfe (filmmaker) said he "cannot possibly understand anything else that could have produced that image" in reference to the picture of a blood-soaked imprint of a man matching Jesus Christ's description on cloth relic.
The Shroud of Turin is a 14-foot linen cloth bearing the faint image of a man with crucifixion wounds identical to Christ’s.
For centuries, experts have debated whether it’s His actual burial cloth—yet even with modern technology, NO ONE can explain how the image was formed.
It remains the most studied and referenced image of Jesus in history—so I used it as my guide.
I shaped His face using its proportions, added period-accurate clothing, and aimed to create something as real and true to history as possible.
This painting-it’s my attempt to depict Jesus as closely as history and faith have preserved Him for over 2,000 years
That’s pretty much it for this past week—just painting, filming, and getting this piece ready for the big reveal.
More soon.
Talk next Friday,
Sam
