Letter To My Supporters.

Hey.

First, thank you.

To everyone new who found me after Charlie’s memorial, and to those who’ve walked with me for years
your support means more than I can say.

Creating a painting that carried Charlie’s spirit on that stage was an honor I’ll never forget.
I’m deeply grateful for how God keeps opening doors to move hearts in the right direction.

A quick, honest update
some good news and some hard news.

Good news:
“American Martyr” is with the family.
Hearing from people who were moved by it has humbled me.
That’s why I paint.

Hard news (and where we are):
Many of you have asked if I’ll release prints.
As most of you know, artists often use reference photos when working from the human figure.
The source image I studied was created by a respected photographer with a true gift for capturing a person’s soul.
I took creative liberties and transformed the meaning and composition for “American Martyr,” but the original photograph remains his work.

Out of respect for the photographer and his rights, and to avoid any legal conflict
especially given our intent to direct proceeds to good causes
it does not look likely I will have permission to release a print drop of Charlie’s piece.

I wish I could give you the chance to collect a fine art print of “American Martyr,” because it represents values many of us share.
If permission is granted, I’ll move carefully and respectfully.
If we can’t reach an agreement, I’ll continue forward with the next piece I delayed during this tragedy.

Could I ask you for a quick favor while we wait? Choose Yes or no.

If prints do become possible with proper permission, would you collect one?

I’ll share an update next Friday.
Thank you for your patience, your prayers, and your kindness
to me, to the family, and to the photographer whose work I respect.

With gratitude,
Sam
